PURPOSE:To manufacture easily regenerable activated carbon having a network structure and holding continuous pores by impregnating a porous body of polyvinyl acetal resin with a resin convertible into glassy carbon by thermal decomposition and by carbonizing and activating the resulting composite porous body holding continuous pores. CONSTITUTION:Polyvinyl alcohol is mixed with aldehydes as a cross-linking agent, starch, water soluble salts, etc., cross-linked, molded, and solidified, and by leaching out the water soluble substance with water, a porous body of polyvinyl acetal resin holding continuous pores is manufactured. This porous body is impregnated with phenolic resin, furan resin or the like convertible into glassy carbon by thermal decomposition, and the resin is cured by heating and united to a body. The resulting composite porous resin body holding continuous pores is carbonized and activated by an ordinary method to obtain activated carbon having a network structure and holding continuous pores. This carbon has superior filtering and adsorbing properties and low pressure loss, and it is easily regenerated. |
