PURPOSE:To form an electrically noncontacting displacement converter by applying stress to an amorphous metallic soft magnetic material in accordance with displacements and detecting the change in the magnetic permeability of the amorphous metallic soft magnetic material. CONSTITUTION:An amorphous metallic soft magnetic material 7 is joined to the side face of a flat plate-like elastic material 6. A coil 8 is wound on the part of a core 5 where there is the matarial 7. When a movable body 11 is moved leftward by an actuator 12, tensile stress is generated in the material 7 and its magnetic permeability increases. The change in the magnetic permeability is detected with a coil 8, whereby the displacement of the actuator 12 is detected.
