PURPOSE:To remarkably increase corrosion resistance of a magnetic recording body and also scratch resistance, by forming a vapor-deposited film of Te on the surface of magnetic layer made of a magnetic metallic thin film vapor- deposited on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of a high-density recording tape in which a magnetic layer is formed with vapor deposition of magnetic alloy taking Co as a major component on a substrate of polyester, etc., Te is vapor-deposited in about 0.01mu thickness under 10<-5> Torr. and at about 500 deg.C. Since Te can be diffused to other metals easily, the bonding force with the magnetic layer is strong, and vapor deposition is possible at lower temperature than the case with other corrosive films, no pin hole is produced and the film can be produced in a uniform thickness. Thus, excellent magnetic recording media which are excellent in the corrosion resistance even with thin thickness and can withstand scratches by magnetic heads, can be obtained. |
