The monitoring appts. uses a probe provided with electrodes which is inserted into the oesophagus of the patient. In the probe casing are two ring-shaped internal electrodes, and two external electrodes of the tape type are applied near each other on the chest of the patient over the heart. A constant current source in connected to the one internal electrode and the one external for transmission of a high frequency alternating current of 10 micro-amperes transversally through the heart. The occurring voltage drop is monitored by the second internal and external electrodes which are connected to a differential amplifier with high inner impedance. - This amplifier is connected to an analyser for continuous reading of the extent of the probed voltage and its phase angle. The analyser output signals are sent through a twin-channelled high pass filter for elimination of the effect of the breathing cycle and amplification. The resulting signal is produced by a recording unit as a curve over the impedance as a function of time. (Provisional basic advised Week 8410)(0/2)
