A door latch comprises in combination, a forked bolt 24 movable between latched and unlatched positions, a striker 52 including a shank 50 and a head portion, the shank being received in engagement with the closed end of the fork 48 of the bolt in the latched position thereof, and a member 44 engageable with the head portion of the striker in the latched position of the bolt to hold the shank of the striker in engagement with the closed end of the fork. As shown, the member 44 is a wedgeshaped nylon shoe which is slidable on a pin 42 against a spring 46 by the head of the striker 52 as the shank 50 of the latter engages the bolt 24. In the latched position of the bolt the head of the striker prevents relative longitudinal movement of the door and body to which the latch is attached. Specification 994,563 is referred to. |
