PURPOSE:To improve the starting performance by so designing the starting mechanism that when kick-starting, the one-way clutch is kept disengaged so that the kicking force is entirely transmitted to the crankshaft. CONSTITUTION:A one-way clutch 28 consists of a roller 26 meshed with the cam surface 25 formed on either the inner race 24 connected to the driven shaft 23 or on the outer race 25 connected to the output shaft. As for the kicking means, there is provided kick-driven gear 34 connected to the driven shaft 23 via a lost motion mechanism 35. Said driven gear 34 is provided with a retainer 27 to hold roller 26 so that the rotation of the kicking means causes the retainer 27 to turn in such direction that the inner race 24 is uncoupled from the outer race 25 and therefore when the starter is kicked the one-way clutch is kept in the disengaged condition so that the entire kicking force is transmitted to the crankshaft 2. |
