PURPOSE:To supply lubricating oil uniformly to the inside and outside surfaces of ingots and to improve the quality of the surfaces, yields and the saving of manpower for maintenance by interposing an annular metallic sheet with prescribed thickness having slits for supplying lubricating oil between a heat insulating molten metal receiving vessel and a water-cooled bottomless mold. CONSTITUTION:During casting of an ingot 8, lubricating oil is supplied through lubricating oil grooves 9a, 9b then through slits 13a, 13b into a mold 1. If at this time the widths Pa, Pb of the slits 13a, 13b are >=0.2mm., the ingot 8 is nabbed by these and the casting is infeasible. Conversely, if they are <=0.2mm., working is difficult. If they are set at about 0.2mm., the lubricating oil can be supplied into the mold 1. As the rate of overhang of the surface in the bottom end part of a heat insulating molten metal receiving vessel 3 is smaller, the ingot 8 of thinner segregation layers can be obtained and in terms of consumption, the smaller the rate of overhang, the better, but there are limits and 0.5- 3.0mm. are preferable. Further, the failure in the angle part of the overhang of the vessel 3 is less and the molten metal is easier to fall if a tapered surface 18 with about 75-85 deg. taper angles to the horizontal plane is formed to said angle part. In this case, the rates Pa, Pb of the overhand are set at about 1mm.. |
