PURPOSE:To reduce the adventitious-light reflectance of a fluorescent surface, and increase the contrast performance of a color picture tube by selectively forming rough parts on parts of the inner surface of a panel which touch a black light absorbing layer. CONSTITUTION:In contrast to the smoothness of parts of the inner surface of a glass panel 1 which face openings 5 of a phosphor layer 3, rough parts 6 are selectively provided on parts of the inner surface of the panel 1 which touch a black light absorbing layer 2. Owing to the above constitution, and in relation to mass reflected lights R31 serving as a background, an inner surface reflected light R2 at the black light absorbing layer 2, where a regular reflection image tends to stand out, undergoes diffuse reflection, and thereby the quality of the picture of a picture tube can be greatly increased. Besides, any nonuniformity of a fluorescent surface, which might be caused due to the shape and the dull cut of the edge of the layer 2, as well as any decreased color purity and any decreased luminance of the fluorescent surface, which might be caused due to trapping of the black phosphor grain, can be prevented. |
