The encircling band 3 joining a cigarette, cigar or cigarillo 1 to a stub 2 is made of substantially impermeable material rendered permeable in an area or areas around the joint 5. The material may be perforated or thinned in the area or areas 6 and may be joined to a second strip 7 of more permeable material. The strips 3 and 7 may encircle the whole length of the stub 2 as shown, the area in the region of the joint 5 only (Fig. 1, not shown) or the strip 7 may be in the region of the joint 5 only while the strip 3 extends the length of the stub 2 (Fig. 3, not shown). The perforations or thinned areas 6 may be circular or lozenge-shaped, or the area 6 may extend continuously around the area of the joint 5.</p> |
