PURPOSE:To prevent generation of zinc dendrite and extend the battery life by inserting a halogen electrode made of a hollow cylindrical porous stuff into a gap inside a columnar hollow zinc electrode and arranging both electrodes face to face. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte, which is composed of zinc chloride aqueous solution containing chorine gas dissolved in it, is fed from a liquid intake 12. The electrolyte is sent through a liquid feed path 13 of a plate body 9 and enters into a hollow section of a chlorine electrode 3 through an opening section 11, then permeates through the chlorine electrode 3 and enters into the gap between a zinc electrode 1 and the chlorine electrod 3, goes from an opening 6 of an upper insulating plate 5 through a liquid exhaust path 8 and is exhausted from a liquid outlet 7. During this time, deposition and dissolution of zinc are repeated on the zinc electrode 1 by charging and discharging. However, since the cross section of the electrode 1 is circular, it has only two edges at the top and the bottom. Furthermore, the current density of the electrode 1 can be made smaller than that of the electrode 3, and the distribution of the electrolyte within the electrode 3 is kept comparatively uniform, thus generation of zinc dendrite can be prevented. |
