The frequently used stitches 1'-10' belonging to a first group are indicated on the front of the sewing machine, and the required stitch is chosen by activating a stitch- selecting device 1-10. Stitches of a second group, which are not used so often, are normally indicated in a hidden position, e.g. on the bottom 15 of a hinged top plate 14 of the sewing machine, together with a two-digit reference number. A single separate actuator 13 can be used to exclude the choice of stitches 1'-10' of the first group with the aid of the stitch-selecting actuator. This makes it possible to use the stitch- selecting actuator to choose a required stitch from the second group, which - when the selection has been made - is indicated by the corresponding reference number displayed on an indictor 11,12. <IMAGE> |
