PURPOSE:To automatically discriminate halftone picture regions, by checking the ratios of picture elments of the halftone density level contained in each mesh formed by dividing pictures into a prescribed size, and by performing discrimination depending on numbers of the ratios which exceed a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:Picture element data of 16 lines are inputted into a buffer memory 100, and, when counting operations of a counting circuit 104 complete, contents of counters C<1>-C<108> are inputted into a deciding circuit 108 through a decoder 106. The deciding circuit 108 outputs 1 bit when the counted value is >=154. A counter 110 counts numbers of 1 bit every 8 bits, and sends the result to a deciding circuit 112. The deciding circut 112 outputs 1 bit when the inputted number is >=3. The output of the deciding circuit 112 is successively inputted into a shift register 116 through a gate 114, and thus, decided results of the halftone against the whole region of 16 lines are collected in the shift register 116. |
