<p>The orthodontic brace is used by dental surgeons, with supports (1) and tubes to attach to the vestibular tooth faces between the gum and the cutting edge. The support uses a horizontal (2) or vertical groove (3) to locate a demountable bolt (4), the tube comprising a round hollow section on a rectangular hollow section and attaching to molars. The mounting of the bolt in a groove may create a gated rectangular opening (5) for either an orthodontic wire or the tube, the latter permitting mesial or distal tooth movements whilst preventing rotation. Two flats (6,7) may be cut on the edge of the support facing the opening, causing the wire to bear on the ridge (8), and permitting pivotal tooth movements with friction eliminated.</p> |
