PURPOSE:To produce high carbon steel for ultrafine wires which do not disconnect in spite of sever working by regulating the amt. of acid soluble Al in the impurities of high carbon steel contg. specific ratios of C, Si, Mn to below a specific value and subjecting the steel to vacuum degassing. CONSTITUTION:In producing high carbon steel contg. 0.04-9.85% C, 0.10-0.3% Si and 0.30-0.90% Mn by weight and consisting of the balance Fe and a slight amt. of impurities, the amt. of acid soluble Al in the impurities is regulated to 0.0005% and this steel is subjected to a vacuum degassing treatment. The essential components of C, Si, Mn are limited in this way and the formation of oxide inclusions consisting essentially of Al2O3, SiO2 is avoided, whereby the blank material which withstands high speed wire drawing techniques sufficiently and has improved fatigue resistance is obtained. |
