Conventional call re-routing in telephone systems, done by switching at the exchange, has two disadvantages, the caller may become confused by all the switching noises, and the co-operation of the exchange is necessary each time the re-routing facility is switched on or off. The system switches the incoming call directly onto an outgoing line, by means of equipment on the subscribers' premises. The incoming call is detected, and an automatic system dials the second number on the outgoing line, provided that the dialling tone is detected. If speech is detected on the second line, an attention-getting signal is sent out on the line to inform the second subscriber that a re-routed call is waiting. The second number is pre-programmed on a keyboard and held in a memory. When the second subscriber is read, the call is switched through.
|
