At least one groove is machined in a metal plate (a); and a metal pipe or tube is located in each groove. Plate (a) is then covered by a second metal plate (b); and at least one of the joint surfaces (a,b) is coated with a thin metal film, pref. of Ag obtd. by electroplating. One plate (a or b) has holes forming reservoirs for a brazing material; and the assembly is brazed together in a furnace. The pipes pref. consist of thin-walled stainless steel tubes, whereas plates (a,b) are pref. made of a copper alloy contg. Cr. Each plate (a,b) pref. contains a semicircular groove receiving a pipe. Used esp. in the mfr. of a cooling panel free from leaks.
