The invention relates to the forming of box-shaped hollow bodies. The aim of the invention is a reduction in costs for the production of the device and in tool costs. It is the object of the invention to provide a device for the mechanical bending out of motor vehicle axles which requires only one forming station for the preliminary and final draw. The essence of the invention consists in the fact that the arms (1) of the tongs have inserted bending jaws (2) on which are arranged for both the preliminary and final draw a first contact surface (4) corresponding to the contour of the prewidened cut-out of the box-shaped hollow section (3) and, at an angle (6) to the said surface, a second contact surface (5) corresponding to the inner finished contour of the box-shaped hollow section (3). The area of application of the invention is the forming of motor vehicle axles. <IMAGE>
