The building element is intended for covering a wall portion, e.g. in the form of a window sill. It is formed from sheet metal and has an upper surface and a front and a rear face with inwardly bent portions which are parallel to the upper surface and leave a longitudinally extending slot between them on the underside of the element. The space inside this element is filled with foam plastics, pref. polyurethane foam, which may be reinforced by pieces of porous baked clay or similar contained therein. The foam pref. fills the element no further than the plane between the inwardly bent portions across the said slot.
