1,088,419. Automatic plant for washing vehicles. G. WEIGELE and J. SULZBERGER. April 6, 1965 [April 9, 1964], No. 14633/65. Heading B7J. Automatic plant for washing vehicles 6 pulled through or driven through the plant, comprises a counterweighted arm 9 pivoted about a horizontal axis to a stand 10 and carrying a brush 3 driven by an electric motor 11 for cleaning the top of the vehicle 6, two brush assemblies 1a 2a and 1b 2b each of which includes two curved or L-shaped arms 14, 15 pivotally mounted on a column 16 about a common upright axis 17, a spring 18 connecting the arms 14, 15, angled stops 19, 20 urged into mutual abutment by the spring, and two brushes 1a 2a or 1b 2b rotated by electric motors 24 via belt drives 25, and means defining an initial position of each assembly in which the brushes 1a, 1b are initially presented to the centre of the front of the vehicle and the brushes 2a, 2b to a wing thereof, so that the passage of a vehicle 6 results in the brush 1a passing across half the front 26 of the vehicle and round the front corner whilst the brush 2a passes alone along the vehicle side 27, then in both brushes 1a, 2a passing along the side 27, and finally in the brush 2a passing over half the vehicle back 31 whilst the brush 1a passes alone along the side 27, the brushes 1b, 2b then passing in a similar way over the other half of the vehicle front 26, the side 29, and the other half of the vehicle back 31. Washing liquid is continuously supplied to the brush 3 through a pipe 12, and to the brushes 1a, 2a and 1b 2b through pipes 23, 22. The means defining the initial position of the assemblies may comprise permanently inclining the pivot axes 17, spring action, or a tension cord loaded by a weight. A stop (32), Figs. 3, 4 and 5 (not shown), is provided for each assembly to hold the arms 14 in the initial position.
|
