<p>An appliance for joining lengths of pipes to each other which have to be driven as piles into the sea bed around the bases of offshore platform legs to improve their stability, is a cage which can be moved by a crane over the junction between the top end of the old and the bottom end of the new pipe section. Powered support elements are used to centre the two sections and a working platform on the cage is used to weld the chamfered pipe ends together. This assists the welding of pipe lengths for a piling operation, using a drop hammer above the water level, and also the preceding operations of flame cutting and chamfering of the driven end of the pile.</p> |
