Stagnant water in open basins, e.g. for use as aquaria or for drinking water purification, is clarified by passing it though through a gravel filter across its entire bottom area and through an elastic open-celled foam layer into a storage space at the bottom. The water enters a siphon pipe where it is mixed with air and lifted back to the surface of the water level. This achieves a mechanical clarification of stagnant water in enclosed basins without interfering with its development of a natural biological atmosphere in the basin. |
