Presses thrust pipes into the ground, while a front device clears and removes the core cut round by press-cutting, in provision for laying pipes without trenching. A boom (9) moves axially to and fro in a cage-type mounting (10) inside a working pipe (4) ahead of the pipes (1) being forwarded. It has a front shovel (13) with all-round movement. On one side the cage is attached to vertical supports (14) in the working pipe, set in two variable-dia. clamping rings (15,16). A conveyor travels on rails on one side below the boom, space for operating being provided on the other side. This is compact, leaving room for comfortable passage, and with good facilities for monitoring and precise control.
