A method for covering a joint portion of a pipe, a cable or the like with a covering material is provided. A covering material comprising a heat-shrinkable material having a heating conductor wire embedded therein and a heat-fusible adhesive layer on the inner surface of the heat-shrinkable material is placed so that the covering material is wound to form a cylinder around the periphery of the joint portion. Then, electricity is supplied in at least two stages of high and middle voltages to the heating conductor wire through a controller capable of continuously performing different operations. If the middle voltage until the surface of the adhesive layer reaches the adhesion temperature and then interrupting the application of electricity, the covering material is shrunk and bonded to the joint portion. |
