<p>A prefabricated plug-in cable junction fitting consists of an insulating elastomer body in which a screening cylinder, also made of an elastomer, is embedded. The inner space of the screening cylinder is evacuated and is bounded by two thin walls on either side. When the conductors are connected up inside the cable sleeve, these walls are pierced and the vacuum in the central space reduces the remaining pressure outside with walls to a level where it cannot affect the electric strength of the cable sleeve.</p> |
