The contact, for a single-column pantographic disconnector, consists of two symmetric rails pivoting w.r.t. one another. Each rail has two projections on its outer surface and is connected to the contact faces of the disconnector when the latter is closed. Each is roughly rectangular in cross-section. The projections are formed on the side facing the region where the rails touch. A pin is located in the centre axis of at least one rail and its outer round end acts as bearing or pivot about which the other rail pivots. The two rails are pressed together by a spring. The advantage lies in increasing the current transfer area.
