PURPOSE:To analyze an isotope composition of a hydrogen gas by measuring an infrared absorption spectrum of a vapor of a gas to be analyzed after it is vaporized with a catalytic oxidizing device. CONSTITUTION:A mixed hydrogen gas of hydrogen H and heavy hydrogen D in the process 1 is introduced into an analyzer from a sampling tube 2. At the same time, a carrier gas containing oxygen is introduced into a catalyst oxidizing device 5 from a cylinder 4 mixed with a gas to be analyzed. For example, the catalytic oxidizing device 5 uses a copper oxide catalyst and an alumina- carried platinum catalyst. The hydrogen gas being analyzed in the gas mixture flown into the catalytic oxidizing device 6 is all converted into steam and then, sent to an infrared spectroscopic cell 11. Infrared active molecules in the gas to be introduced into the cell 11 are H2O, HDO and D2O generated by the oxidation of the gas to be analyzed. These three moleculars having an intrinsic absorption wavelength undergoes a spectroscopic analysis with a diffraction grating 19 and the intensity of infrared rays is recorded on a recorder 23. |
