A casing has a tubular part (10) and cup-shaped rigid closure members (16) at both ends, the rim of each closure member being sealed to the corresponding end (18) of the tubular part. Each closure member has a portion (24), adjacent the rim, of enlarged diameter relative to the tubular part (10) and relative to a cylindrical part (26) of the closure member remote from the rim. A bundle (12) of hollow fibres is housed in the casing with its ends extending into the cylindrical parts of the respective closure members.
