PURPOSE:To shorten access time by discriminating a control data block in a file near a present head position which is on a track other than a track where an access request is generated, and by attaining access on the basis of the position information. CONSTITUTION:An information processing system which has a magnetic tape MT with data tracks and a magnetic tape device MTU is provided with a discriminating means for data blocks for file control. When an access request for a faile on a data track different from a file accessed lastly among the data tracks is generated, a data block for file control over a file near the current head position of the magnetic tape device on the different data track is discriminated by said discriminating means and on the basis of information on a position in a data track stored in the discriminated data block, access to the file on the different data track is attained. |
