PURPOSE:To prevent the abrasion of a magnetic tape and to facilitate recording by magnetically recording a signal by making a fine spot of light scan on the magnetic tape without sliding a rotary magnetic head, which is turning at a high speed, in contact with the magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:A thin laser beam from a semiconductor laser LS is formed image as a fine light spot on a magnetic tape, such as a chromium tape T, having special magnetizing characteristics. The chromium tape T has a magnetic material layer which enable strong residual magnetization with a weak magnetic field once its temperature is held high. For this purpose, intensity modulation of the laser beam by a signal gives a difference in the spot brightness of light with which the chromium tape T is irradiated, and a track by a difference in temperature is formed where the running chromium tape T is irradiated with the beam. Therefore, record which corresponds to the signal is formed on the chromium tape T applied with a bias magnetic field. Thus, the abrasion of the magnetic tape is prevented, and recording is facilitated. |
