Process for treating contaminated activated carbon.

A process for the regeneration of contaminated activated carbon is provided. The process utilises hydrogen fluoride gas and aqueous hydrogen fluoride to gasify and solubilize the now carbonaceous contaminants. The hydrogen fluoride is regenerated for recycle. The process provides for activated carbon to be economically used for cleaning of flue gases, particularly gases generated by combustion of hydrocarbon.
