A road or the like surface of tar, bitumen or asphalt has particles of a plastic pressed therein while the surface is at an elevated temperature. The particles may be partially melted before pressing or rolling into the surface which may be heated from laying or heated subsequently. Particles having diameters between 3 and 8 millimetres are preferably of a polyolefine, or a copolymer formed from two or more monomers selected from ethylene, propylene and 1- butene, or composed of an elastomeric copolymer with cross-linking brought about in the particles. The particles may contain a filler, a pigment, a luminescent substance, or a light reflecting substance such as aluminium bronze. The invention may be applied to road sign markings in the road surface. |
