PURPOSE:To compress picture data of the 10-bit constitution to data of 8-bit constitution, by converting a large difference value of a comparatively low frequency to a coarse difference value and by using a fine difference value of a comparatively high frequency as it is. CONSTITUTION:When a difference value Y is within a predetermined reference value X as it is. When the difference value Y is outside of the reference value + or -64, a coarse difference value, namely, a compression difference value X calculated by the data compression processing is used as the compression difference value X. After the difference value Y is calculated in this manner, compression data X of the 8-bit constitution is generated in accordance with the difference value Y by a functional equation Y=16X+960 or Y=16X-960. Thus, picture data of the 10-bit constitution is compressed to the compression difference value of the 8-bit constitution to reduce the number of required bits by 50%. |
