PURPOSE:To reduce the size and weight of the whole fixing device and to improve its fixing property, by forming a means of applying preliminary pressure to paper before toner image transfer and another means of pressure-fixing the paper which carries the toner image after the transfer in one body. CONSTITUTION:When a calender treatment is performed by applying preliminary pressure to paper before a toner image is carried to obtain smoothness, the property of pressure fixation is improved, but providing a preliminary-pressure applying device and a pressure fixing device separately results in that the device increases in size. For this purpose, the fixing device 1 consists of a couple of rollers 5 and 6 which form a nip part for the pressure fixation of the toner image to an image carrier, and a couple of rollers 6 and 7 which form another nip part for applying preliminary pressure to an image carrier before the toner image is carried. The roller 6 performs both the fixation and preliminary-pressure application. Paper 4 is applied with preliminary pressure between the rollers 6 and 7 and, after the toner image is transferred by a transfer part 3, passes between the rollers 5 and 6 to perform pressure fixation. |
