PURPOSE:To enhance the charge and discharge reversibility of a silver-oxide secondary battery by using as a positive active material, porous argentous oxide prepared by subjecting silver carbonate to thermal decomposition. CONSTITUTION:Silver carbonate is subjected to thermal decomposition carried out at about 200 deg.C, which is below the decomposition temperature of argentous oxide, under a reduced absolute pressure of around 0.1mm.Hg for about 3hr, thereby producing argentous oxide. Thus produced argentous oxide, which has a large specific surface area of about 1.0-2.0m<2>/g and a small crystal size of around 200-300Angstrom , is pressed and molded into a positive mixture, which is used in assembling a silver-oxide secondary battery. The Argentous oxide, which is highly reactive and is easily charged, has a characteristic preferable as a positive active material for a secondary battery. In addition, it has an excellent charge and discharge reversibility. |
