PURPOSE:To measure the height of an electric pole without being disturbed by a body mounted on the pole by sticking a scale piece so that the scale reference is coincident with a position of specific height on the electric pole, and measuring the difference between the horizontal state height of a telescope and the specific height at a place distance from the electric pole. CONSTITUTION:A level 4 stuck on the electric pole 1 so that the scale reference P is at the position of specific height L is arranged at a proper place distant from the electric pole 1. A telescope 4 is held horizontally first to view the scale piece 2, and the difference DELTAL between the height H of the telescope 41 and the scale reference height L of the scale piece 2 is measured. Then, the elevation angle theta1 of the telescope 41 to the lower end of the electric pole 1 is measured and the elevation angle theta2 of the telescope 41 to the upper end of the electric pole is further measured. Consequently, the height X of the electric pole is easily measured by substituting those measured value in a specific expression within a range of the elevation angle theta2 where there is no disturbance of a transformer 3.
