PURPOSE:To improve the battery performance at high temperature by adding lithium hydroxide and a rare earth compound in an alkaline solution as an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A nickel-cadmium battery is formed using an oxide of nickel as the positive active material, and an alkaline solution of potassium hydroxide alone or an alkaline solution of a mixture of potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide, both contain lithium hydroxide and a rare earth compound, as an electrolyte. Thus, the lithium hydroxide improves the electronic conductivity of nickel hydroxide which is generated as the result of discharge of the positive electrode, and the rare earth compound increases the effective area of the electrode by mixing into the nickel positive electrode, and the battery performance especially at high temperature is improved due to the interactive action. |
