Digital control system for an internal combustion engine

In a digital control system for an internal combustion engine, a two-stage register is used. The register is used for storing digital data which represent detected engine operating parameters and for supplying such data to a programmable digital computer for processing. The processing time is improved by reading out from only one register which contains the data bits with the highest significance, provided that engine parameters are concerned which have a relatively narrow dynamic range. On the other hand, the two registers with all the data bits for the stored data are read out, provided that engine parameters with a relatively wide dynamic range are concerned.
