The central heating system, e.g. for a multiple occupation dwelling has each radiator provided with a thermostat valve (2), controlling the flow of the heat transport medium to maintain the manually selected room temp. Each thermostat valve has an associated heating element (5) selectively supplied by a centralised programmed control limit, to provide a heat output simulating the room temp. for overriding the valve thermostat to allow the temp. of the associated radiator to be reduced. Pref. the radiators are connected in a ring circuit their thermostat valves (2) each incorporating a heating resistor fed with current during selected time periods by the centralised programmed control.
