A device for mass transfer between fluids, utilising a pressure gradient and/or concentration gradient as the transport mechanism, consists of a ply of support mat (22), a membrane (5), a flow divider (6, 26, 36) in the form of a fluid-tight embossed film, a further membrane (7) and a further support mat (22), all five plies together having been pleated to give a folded pack and being enclosed in a surrounding housing (4) in such a way that, by means of sealing beads (8) in the region of the end faces of the folded pack, three mutually separate flow chambers (I, II, III, III') are formed and the device is suitable as a dialyser and/or as a filter, also for the treatment of blood in the medical field. The support mats (21, 22) are slightly compressible and have a quasi-planar surface, by means of which the membranes (5, 7) are provided with a corresponding planar support on the inactive side. Under the pressure in the third flow chamber (III, III'), the support mat (21, 22) is slightly compressed, so that the flow divider (6, 26, 36) assumes a contactless intermediate position between the two membranes (5 and 7) in such a way that laminar flow of the fluid in the third flow chamber (III, III') can take place over the projections (6', 27, 37), facing the membrane surfaces, of the flow divider (6, 26, 36). The housing end plate (4c) facing the fluid inlet in the third flow chamber (III, III') is treated with special lamellar fins (32) which divide the fluid stream in the inlet channel (30) into a multiplicity of lamella channels (31) which become smaller and wider in the downstream direction corresponding to the intended fluid distribution over the cross-section, the lamellar fins (32) shaped with a saw tooth cross-section bearing with their sharp edge against the front edge of the folded pack and sealing the lamella channels (31) from one another. <IMAGE>
