Articles are releasably secured within the bore of a tube by a closure device. The articles may be surveillance specimen capsules used for irradiation monitoring in a nuclear reactor vessel. The closure device includes a cylindrical member with a series of circumferentially spaced latches. The actuator is located partly within the cylindrical member, and provides a radial camming action during axially movement to actuate the latches. The articles are engaged by a member connected to the actuator. The actuator has spines which project into spaces between the latches.
