Coffee beans are roasted in a container which has an open top and at least one opening at its bottom end. Air is supplied to the bottom opening to provide a column of air which flows upwardly through the container to leave through the open top. The quantity of air is controlled to cause the beans to be suspended in, and to revolve in, the column of air. The column of air is heated to a predetermined temp. for roasting the beans. Pref. the temp. of the column of air is first increased to about 100 deg. C for drying the beans, and subsequently is raised to 180 to 230 deg.C for roasting them. The process can be used to raost a small quantity of beans either in a shop or household, to ensure fresh taste.
|
