A marking element comprises a pre-formed film (5) of a linear @thermoplastic@ resin, preferably polyurethane, which is non-tacky at room temperature, the surface of the element which is exposed in use being printed or coated with a compatible ink composition (9). The element is applied to a garment by application of heat and pressure to soften the thermoplastic film (5) and fuse the element to the garment, the element being subsequently removable by means of a solvent.
