NEW MATERIAL:An ML-236B derivative of formulaI(R is H, lower alkyl or alkaline metal) or formula II. USE:With the inhibitory activity against cholesterol and useful as a remedy for hyperlipemia. PROCESS:ML-236B of formula III separated and purified from a netabolite of Penicillium citrinum which is a kind of blue mold is converted into a derivative of formulaIor II by the action of a microorganism. Any strain capable of producing a hydroxylase, e.g. of the genuses Absidia, Cunninghamella or Syncephalastrum, may be cited as the microorganism to be used. Preferably, Absidia. coerulea IFO 4423 is suitable. |
