The cage (1) is used to house snails during battery-rearing and breeding by amateurs or for research. It differs in detail for rearing and breeding having a floor (4) which slopes towards a drain channel (17) at the front. Parallel vertical side walls (3) of an approximately oval shape extend from the floor, the roof (2) and the rear wall (B) following an externally convex curve. The front door (5) is bottom hung (6) and catches a closure, with an aperture (8) for the introduction of food. Slits (S) in the door and the rear wall provide ventilation, and a revolving water jet (12) sweeps the internal surfaces. The channel may have a perforated cover and the rear cage may have a rectangular floor opening, locating a laying-box.
