The appts. is used to continuously measure the thermal decomposition of materials, e.g. polymers, by reflectometry based on the colouration or the fluorescence of test-bars of the material after these test-bars are exposed to heat, light or oxidation. The appts. contains a test-bar holder (8) driven by an electrical motor (5). The test-bar (9) passes at constant speed in front of a visible or UV light source (10). An opto-electronic sensor (12) is used to record the variation of colour or fluorescence along the test-bar. The appts. can also be used, for example, to verify, during manufacture, polymers coming out of an extruder or a calender and thus driven directly by the machine.
