A method and apparatus for the sprouting of seeds, namely, mung beans and soybeans and the harvesting of the same comprises a sprouting chamber 12, 14 which is impervious to light and surrounding environment and a mesh bed 20 supported by partition 18 at a lever parallel to the surface 64 of the water of a reservoir 14 on which a layer of seeds 26 is placed in touch with said water surface. A water-saturated pad 22 is overlaid on said seeds to cause the seeds to germinate and to develop roots to grow downward to reach the reservoir beneath and to develop sprout portions to grow upward. The weight of the water-saturated pad aids in the correct growth of the sprouts. When the sprouts have matured, they are severed from their root portions by drawing a cutting instrument across the top of the mesh bed. <IMAGE> |
