In the thickening of flocculant- treated slurries, eg. the dewatering of slurries produced in coal preparation, the slurry separates by settling as it flows laterally through a pack of inclined plates 6 from inlets (5) to clear liquid overflow (8), and the settled solids are removed by filter cloth belt 9 which covers the whole floor of the tank and moves up end wall 3 and possibly round on external vacuum drum at 0.5 to 10 cm/sec. Second belt 14 reduces eddy currents and assists the removal of the solids without breaking the flocs. <IMAGE> |
