Safety device for electrical socket outlet with insertion holes 11 for the pins of a plug, behind which holes are arranged sleeves for power connection. A safety device 12 in front of the sleeves can be rotated between a first position in which it covers the holes 11 and a second position in which it is pivoted away from the holes. The device can in addition be pivoted around an axis that is transverse to the axis of rotation and is provided with stop edges that interact with other stop edges 11 on a fixed part 13. When the device is loaded with pins on both sides of its axis of rotation, it assumes a balanced position in which the stop edges are released from each other and rotation can take place by the pins sliding against the inclined surfaces of the device. If the devices is loaded unequally by means of a foreign body, it pivots around the axis of rotation and holds the stop edges engaged with each other and cannot be rotated. The device 12 is in the shape of a moulded plastic plate 16 from which there projects at least one elongated projection 17 that is manufactured in the same moulding process and that forms a spring that attempts to keep the device 12 in its first position.
