PURPOSE:To produce a garnet layer which has an easy magnetization axis perpendicular to the layer surface and as well of which a coercive force is low by a method wherein the layer composition is represented by (Y1-x-yTmxSmy)3-zBiz Fe5-pGapO12, and the plane of growth is (110). CONSTITUTION:The liquid phase epitaxial glown layer of a garnet with a composition represented by (Y1-x-yTmxSmy)3-zBizFe5-pGapO12(0.56<=x<=0.90, 0.02<=y<=0.09, 0.05<=z<=0.60, 0.5<=p<=1.0) is grown on a (110) non-magnetic garnet substrate from flux mainly composed of PbO and Bi2O3. With this structure, a (110) garnet layer can be obtained, which has an easy magnetization axis perpendicular to the layer surface and a low coercive force, and yet which can create necessary magnetic anisotropy mainly by grown induction anisotropy without introducing any distortion into the layer. |
