<p>Novel 1 - nitro - 9 - [o - dialkylamino - alkylamino] -acridines of the formula <FORM:1093847/C2/1> and their acid addition salts, wherein R1 is a straight chain alkyl residue e.g. propyl and R2 is an alkyl group, e.g. CH3, are made by heating 1-nitro-9-chloro-acridine (obtainable by ring closure of N-(31-nitrophenyl)-anthranilic acid with POCl3 and fractional crystallization of the resulting mixture of 1- and 3-nitro-9-chloroacridines from cyclohexane/chloroform) with phenol or a ring substituted derivative of phenol for 5-30 minutes at 20-100 DEG C., adding an amine (R2)2N-R1-NH2 and heating for a further 15-60 minutes at 80-100 DEG C.</p> |
